Event aimed at reducing car crime proves a big success

Organisers of PL8 SAF3, an event where Hertsmere residents were able to have safety measures applied to their cars and bikes free, have hailed it a "great success".

Scores of people gathered at Bushey Grove Leisure Centre last Wednesday, for the event arranged by Hertsmere Community Safety Partnership aimed at tackling number plate and bike thefts in the borough.

A total of 55 cars were fitted with tamper-proof security screws, eight bicycles were security marked, and eight people signed up to a national property registering website.

Valerie Kane, Hertsmere Borough Council’s community safety officer said: "Simple measures like fitting tamper-proof security screws to your vehicle, or security marking your bike and personal possessions, can save a lot of time and heartache.

"Through great examples of partnership work such as PL8 SAF3 and our Safer Streets initiative, we aim to make Hertsmere an even safer place to live and work."
