West Ham’s bid to take over the Olympic Stadium has received a boost after a host of celebrities, sports stars and politicians backed the club's proposal.

The famous names backing the Hammers' bid include actors James Corden and Ray Winstone, and former Olympic champion Sally Gunnell.

Supporters are said to want to ‘put east London on the map and keep it there’ after the Olympics came to a close at the weekend.

An open letter featured on the West Ham website explains the club want to keep the feel-good factor of London 2012 going by becoming the new ‘anchor concessionaire’ of the stadium.

Tottenham Hotspur and Leyton Orient have also shown an interest in the Olympic Staidum in the past.
