More details have emerged about a car crash in Bushey yesterday evening in which a man died.

Police and paramedics were called to the roundabout by the Watford Hilton at about 6pm, following reports of an accident involving a Pagani Zonda Italian hypercar.

The car had crashed into metal fencing, at the junction of Hartspring Lane and Berry Grove Lane, at 5.52pm.

A man in his 50s, believed to be the driver, died at the scene. The passenger, in his 20s, escaped without requiring hospital treatment.

Police have said they do not know what caused the car to leave the road and crash into the fencing, but have revealed the car was a 7.3 litre vehicle, is thought to have cost upwards of half a million pounds and is approximately ten years old.

Specialised car rental websites have revealed motorists can hire a Pagani Zonda from £3,000 a day.

Olivia Finucane, police spokeswoman, said: "The man did not own the car, but was associated with a London-based company that does.

"I can confirm the man who has died is not a celebrity, but can give no further details at this time."
