Fire starts in wood skip in West Watford industrial estate
9:30am Tuesday 21st August 2012 in News
By Mike Wright, Chief Reporter
Firefighters were called to an industrial estate in West Watford after a skip full of wood caught fire in the early hours of the morning.
Crews from Watford Fire Station attended the blaze, outside Watford Launderers & Cleaners, in Sydney Road at around 4.30am today.
Watch Commander Dave Elliott said fire could have been going for a while before the emergency services were called.
He said: “It could have been smouldering for some time before it started. It was a wood skip and there wasn’t too much in it.
“The flames were coming out of the skip and it was quite close to the building. We put it out with a hose reel.
"We then used a thermal imaging camera on the building to make sure no flames had spread.”
Mr Elliott added that the fire was not being treated as suspicious.
