Watford’s civic leader has paid a visit to one of the charities she will be supporting during her year in office.

Shirena Counter, chairman of Watford Borough Council and the town's "first citizen", visited Signpost, in High Street, Watford, on Wednesday.

The charity offers confidential counselling to young people between the ages of 11 and 25 and is one of two chosen for support by Councillor Counter. The other is the Herts and Middlesex Wildlife Trust.

Following the visit she said: "Over the years I have been a councillor, I have been particularly impressed with Watford's thriving voluntary sector and have been struck by how many people, from all walks of life, offer up their time and expertise to the benefit of our community.

"My two chosen charities both support causes close to my heart and reflect my theme of 'protecting our future' in different ways."
