House boat on Grand Union Canal catches fire

An investigation is underway into the cause of a fire which damaged a house boat on the Grand Union Canal this morning.

Crews were called to a vessel moored at Gade Bank at around 7am to extinguish a small fire - the female occupant had been alerted by a smoke alarm and had escaped without injury.

Early indications show the fire may have been started by an electrical fault.

A fire investigation crew were at the scene on Monday morning and Dave Elliott, watch commander at Watford Fire Station, described the fire as "nothing suspicious but slightly unusual".
