MP Mike Penning appointed Minister of State for Northern Ireland

MP promoted in cabinet reshuffle MP promoted in cabinet reshuffle

Mike Penning MP has been promoted to Minister of State for Northern Ireland in David Cameron’s cabinet reshuffle.

Mr Penning, who previously held the position of Under-Secretary of State for Transport, says he is delighted with the promotion having served in the country as a young soldier in the 1970s.

The Hemel Hempstead MP also believes it will benefit his constituency.

He said: "My job is to promote continued peace with a particular emphasis on national security.

"The new job is dramatically different to what has gone before, it is very surreal."
