Elderly man riding on scooter rescued from hard shoulder of M25

An elderly man driving down the hard shoulder of the M25 on a motorised scooter had to be rescued by the Highways Agency on Monday.

Police were called at 3.22pm to reports of the elderly man on the hard shoulder near Chorleywood. He had just passed junction 18, travelling in the direction of Heathrow.

Police contacted the Highways Agency, which sent a car to help him.

Vivien Hewett, who saw the man, said: “It was a bit of a shock, I'd just pulled on to the motorway with my daughter was in the car and I saw him.

“I said 'oh my goodness what's he doing?' He was obviously confused and took a wrong turn.”

Sorry, but isn't a 'motorised scooter' just a scooter? Or did the reporter mean a mobility scooter?
