Rehearsals at Leavesden Studios source of gunfire sounds

The sound of gunfire ringing out in Abbots Langley and North Watford last night was from rehearsals at Leavesden Studios , police have confirmed.

Residents and members of the public called police after hearing distant gunfire at around 9pm.

Officers from Hertfordshire Constabulary contacted security at the studios - where All You Need is Kill, starring Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt, is currently being filmed - to confirm the noise was coming from the studio.

Earlier on Thursday, eyewitnesses saw thick smoke billowing across South Way Playing Field from the studios.

A police spokesman said: "At around 9pm yesterday (Thursday), police received two reports of the sound of distant gunfire from members of the public in the Abbots Langley and north Watford areas.

"Officers contacted security at Leavesden Studios who confirmed that rehearsals involving use of firearms had been taking place there during the evening."

Would it not have been wise on the part of the studios to inform the police in advance or are these film people so arrogant that it didn't occur to them?

Shouldn't the studio issues an explanation and an apology for alarming members of the public unnecessarily?
