Lions Club seeks top young pianists for European competition

Watford Lions are on the hunt for pianists to take part in a European music competition.

Lions clubs across Europe will put forward one candidate from their district to take part in the multi district final.

The successful contestant will then be put forward to the Lions European competition, which takes place in Turkey from October 31 until November 2, 2013.

Entrants must be born after May 1990 and must have been resident in the United Kingdom for at least three years prior to May 2013.

An entrance fee of £25 will be applicable for each participant, to be paid by the sponsoring Lions Club or association.

Each candidate will be required to play Rondo in A minor KV 511 by Mozart,
plus one piece of their choice from a list featuring a selection of pieces including the first of Chopin’s four scherzos, the scherzo opus by Brahms and Prokofiev’s sonata no 3 or Sarcasmes.

An independent panel of two judges and a chairman will choose the district winner with prizes of £250 for first place, £100 for second and £50 for third at stake.

In the multi district final, the prizes are twice that while at the final in the Europa Forum, Turkey, 3,000 Euros will go to the winner with 1,500 Euros for second and 1,000 Euros for third.

Entries for the district competition must be submitted by January 16, 2013, with the competition taking place on February 17, 2013 at Northwood College, Maxwell Road, Northwood.

The multi district final is on April 7, 2013, at the Birmingham Conservatoire, and winners will be selected to attend the Europa Forum Finals in Istanbul, on November 2013.
