A series of short walks starting from stations along the Abbey Line were launched this week.
New leaflets and waymarking allow walkers to enjoy a choice of four short and leisurely walks leaving from stations between Watford Junction and St Albans Abbey.
Representatives of The Abbey Line Community Rail Partnership (CRP) and Countryside Management Service (CMS) launched the initiative on Thursday.
Stuart Pile, Hertfordshire County Council's cabinet member for highways and transport and chairman of the CRP, said: "The Abbey Line has rapidly become an important part of the community, bringing together people along the line and encouraging the use of rail travel.
"I am delighted that the CRP has teamed up with CMS to organise these walks from stations on the line. They are short easy walks suitable for beginners but will also provide seasoned walkers with an insight into a rural oasis among the hustle and bustle of nearby settlements.”
