Bouquets of dahlias and chrysanthemums lit up Bovingdon Memorial Hall at Saturday’s autumn show.

The show saw nearly 250 entries from 28 exhibitors ranging in age from four to 70s.

This year’s unpredictable weather, which saw a spring drought followed by an extremely wet summer, did little to adversely affect the quality of the entries.

Declan Andrews of Parish electric picked up a bottle of champagne for winning the Bovingdon High Street best hanging basket competition Mike Leon retained the Ernest Wright cup while Doug Leslie won the Victory Hall Cup and the Chrysanthemum Cup.

Alan Bunting won the Dahlia Cup and the Outspan Cup was awarded to Alec Parker. Maywyn King baked the best cake to win the Horwood Cup. Glenys Welstead retained the Floral Art Bowl whilst Shirley Masterson won the Copse Hill Cup for preserves and baking.

Polly O'Donnell retained the junior cup for the fourth successive year. Sue Miller, show secretary, said: "The vibrant colours and quality of the were stunning, we were so lucky our exhibitors came to Bovingdon and not the national competitions."
