The Herts Essex Energy Partnership offering free insulation to residents
Homeowners in Watford are being urged to take advantage of a scheme that means they could have their home insulated for free.
The Herts Essex Energy Partnership, of which Watford Borough Council is a part, is offering free loft and cavity wall insulation to all residents regardless of income.
The scheme involves experts from the partnership visiting residents home to carry out a no obligation survey to check if the building is suitable for insulation.
If it is deemed suitable workers will come back and complete the work at an agreed date.
However the scheme is only available to residents until December.
Neil Walker, Watford Borough Council energy and renewal surveyor, said: "If you have little or no insulation in your home, up to forty pence in every pound of heat you pay energy companies could be escaping through your roof and walls.
"This combined with the fact that households now spend an average of over £1,200 a year on gas for heating and hot water means that it is a good time to look at how we can all lower our bills.
"Fitting loft and cavity wall insulation can help you reduce the cost of heating your home by over £300 a year."
