Although the Olympic flame may have been extinguished, memories of the roles pupils from a Radlett school played in the opening ceremony will continue to burn bright.
Eight pupils from Newberries Primary School, in Newberries Avenue had the chance to take part in the prestigious event, and were supporting the Cook Islands.
They had researched the background of the tiny South Pacific islands during classes and showed their support by cheering on the team as they made their way into the stadium.
Teacher Mark Almond said: "It was a wonderful occasion and a fantastic opportunity for the children to be involved in such a memorable event."
Newberries Primary School was selected to take part in the event through the reward and recognition programme of the Get Set network, the official London 2012 education programme.
Staff and students had demonstrated a commitment to living the Olympic and Paralympic values and incorporating them into their school lives and curriculum.
