Police cordoned off part of High Street in Watford yesterday evening after being called to a reported shoplifting.

Officers attended the 999 call at Boots at around 6.30pm and found security staff dealing with a 27-year-old man from Stanmore.

He was later arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon, a screw driver, and suspicion of shoplifting.

However police said the male had a minor head injury and was taken to Watford General Hospital for treatment.

He has since been released from hospital and is currently in police custody.

The police cordon was lifted around 9pm.
