It's nice to see all the Homeless charities getting grants in preparation for the massive rise in homeless this Government is going to make of the poor people who are disabled, mentally ill, sick or just unemployed when their new draconian measure come in next year!!!!

HN12,

I think you are over-reacting a bit there. It's a very emotive subject but we have to be fair when we talk about it, and we must talk about such things.

Nothing can make up for having a disability or long-term illness, but as a nation we must only pay what we can afford and what is fair to those who receive it and those that have to pay for it.

I doubt anyone at all will be made homeless as a result of these cuts. It just won't happen.

There is no magic pot of gold (well actually "there is", it's called the deficit and it's what we as a nation borrow to pay for everything that we can't afford, a bit like a national credit card), but eventually we will have to go bankrupt or pay it back. It's not free money.

It's no use living beyond our means, anyone who works and runs a household will tell you that. Therein lies disaster.

That said, before cutting one penny of benefits I would slash the overseas aid budget, leave the EU, cut the number of MPs by 50%, stop paying for the civil service unions and scrap those incredibly expensive but useless green windmills.

If after all that, savings were still needed, then start cutting benefits, but let's get rid of the obvious waste first.

Only time will tell Reg but what is being done to the poor of this country is nothing short of scandalous

If someone becomes homeless through genuine hardship then they deserve all the help they can get. However, far too many have never contributed to the state, have never even tried to get a job, have lost all they had through addiction to drugs and alcohol, and just general laziness. Too many expect everything to be handed to them on a plate, and consider this to be a lifestyle, rather than a stop gap in times or hardship. I know people who don't work because they get everything provided for them by the state, and it makes me sick. They are Ill because they sit at home all day smoking and drinking, and we are all paying for it. Time that more was done to stop these lazy **** expecting everything to be done for them, and living off the state when they are capable of working. The "there are no jobs" argument is no argument. If you cannot get a job then go do some voluntary work to give back to society some of what you have taken.

I would like to see more people willing to do voluntary work. It makes such a difference to many local groups and enables people to play an active part in their community. Young people in particular often report how they have benefitted from working with people very different to themselves.

OMG more brainwashed rhetoric rears it's ugly head! Hearsay and rumour mongering like this does not help anyone! What the hell are you saying? people choose to be sick or disabled because they stay at home? Your comments make me vomit! You need to walk a mile in someone else shoes sometime and stop twitching your net curtains at what others are doing!

I think you need to read my comments again. If my comments make you vomit then either you have not read them, or you have something to hide. I have an issue with people who are able to work but choose not to. If someone is disabled or genuinely Ill, then they need some assistance, I have no problem with that at all. Those are the people that the welfare state is for. It is not for people who are too lazy to work, or who are Ill because they don't work and sit on their **** all day smoking and drinking, and expect others to pick up the pieces. This is not hearsay and rumours, I see it with my own eyes. I know people who choose not to work because they are better off at home and having everything provided for them. The welfare state is screwed up. If the scroungers all got off their lazy arses and did some work there would be more help available for those who genuinely need it. It is too easy to work the system.

Anyone who denies this is happening has got their head buried in the sand. Weed out the benefit cheats, report them to the authorities, and get them into work, and paying taxes, rather than being a drain on the system.
