Herons Youth FC given £500 grant

Football team handed grant Football team handed grant

A north Watford youth football team has netted a council cash grant.

Members of Herons Youth FC have been given £500 to help raise their profile in the area ahead of a recruitment drive for next season.

The money has come from the Hertfordshire County Council ’s locality budget scheme.

This is the best example yet of why there should not be locality grants.

Hang your head in shame, whoever gave this one out.

Pathetic!

Nothing against the Herons, but why would I want my council taxes going to raise the profile of a boys football team?

Recession or no recession, this is a complete waste of MY money!!!

Reg, all the local kids football teams are run by volunteers, giving a lot of their time to provide football to kids in local communities. £500 is not a lot of money, and if it is being used to recruit more kids to go and play football rather than games consoles then I would say its money well spent. Isn't this what the "Olympic Legacy" was all about? Getting more kids to enjoy sport.
