Charity golf day at Bushey Country Club raises £1,500

A golf day held at Bushey Country Club has raised more than a thousand pounds for charity - with donations still coming in.

Hertsmere borough councillors Brenda Batten and Paul Morris were among 11 teams teeing off at the club on Friday.

Their aims were to raise money for MacMillan Cancer Support and Help for Heroes, this year’s chosen charities of the club’s two golf captains.

The Club’s Golf Professional Daniel Fitzsimmons was present to challenge anyone who dared to beat his tee shot nearest the pin on the 17th green.

Teams of four competed with the best three scores on each hole counting and there were prizes for the longest drive, nearest the pin, beat the pro, plus team and individual winners.

Thanks to all of their efforts, £1,500 was raised for the charities, with donations still coming in.

Liane Dyson, Bushey Country Club representative, said: "It was a fantastic day and we are set to make a brilliant amount of money for our two charities.

"We want to thank everyone who took part, including our two local councillors, and everyone that contributed to a fun day for two very worthwhile causes."

The day started at 9.15am with coffee and bacon baguettes before golfers took to the course.

A three-course dinner was served at the end of the tournament before a charity raffle and prize giving.
