Sailing club celebrates after £50,000 cash boost
Donations totalling more than £50,000 have given Rickmansworth Sailing Club a new lease of life according to one official.
The club was presented the money by South West Herts MP David Gauke on Sunday, September 23, during a celebration at its Troy Lake base.
The money includes grants of £32,000 from the Sport England Inspired Facility Fund and £10,000 from the National Lottery Sport England Fund.
The money, all raised since February, will be used to replace old pontoons with a plastic modular system. Two new dinghies will also be bought with the Sport England grant and money topped-up by the club.
Martin Smethers, the club’s grants officer, said: "When I started out it was beyond my wildest expectations to raise £50,000 in that length of time.
"The money has given the club a new lease of life."
