Screens to provide real-time information for bus users in Hertfordshire

Bus passengers in south west Hertfordshire will soon be able to see how far away their bus is with the roll-out of a new real time information system.

Departure screens are set to go up in at bus stations across the county in the coming weeks.

Ruling politicians hope the new system will help tempt drivers out of their cars and get more using public transport.

Stuart Pile, cabinet member for highways and transport, said: "Real-time passenger information will help make public transport more attractive to use, as well as helping us to deliver more reliable and punctual buses.

"This is vital if we are to persuade residents to leave their cars at home and take the bus instead."

This is a good idea, I just hope it didn't cost a lot of money to do. I wouldn't like to think of fares rising significantly for something we could and do so easily live without.

This is indeed a good idea and will make bus travel more attractive. If information screens can't be put at every bus stop perhaps the information could be transmitted to mobile phones.
Of course, while it is helpful to know your missing bus has not been cancelled but is just running late and will arrive in x minutes is would be even better if more buses ran on time.
I believe this information will only be available for Centrebus, Metroline and Uno buses. What about Arriva?

that will f*** arriva wont it.
i can assure you it wont tempt people out of the car because the busses (particularly arriva) are very unreliable and way too expensive. they used to run till 11 at night now they stop at 6 so you cant get back from work, good luck with it

I havent used a bus for ages but these screens seem a good idea.

Someone I know was without their car a little while ago and was shocked at how much it cost to catch the bus to do a short journey. If they hadnt had a small child with them they would have walked despite the fact it was raining heavily at the time!
