Skanska celebrates and hands over £800 to Peace Hospice

As part of a year of celebration the construction company Skanska held an afternoon tea party at its UK head office in Maple Cross on Friday.
The high point of the high tea was the presentation of a cheque for £800 to the Peace Hospice in Watford.
Accepting the cheque on behalf of the Peace, corporate development manager Rachel Fowler said: "We need to raise £3.8m in voluntary income each year and could not do it without companies like Skanska behind us.
"Over the years that Skanska has supported us, in excess of £26,000 has been raised - which is a tremendous achievement. With 80p in every £1 raised going directly to patient care, you can get an idea of just how much your money has helped."
In the lead-up to the event, employees bought raffle tickets giving them a chance of winning one of ten prizes linked to the company’s Swedish roots.
These included a Swedish massage, tickets to the musical Mamma Mia and entry for two at London’s Ice Bar; where everything is made from ice harvested from the frozen River Torne in northern Sweden.
More than 250 staff gathered to hear Mats Williamson, Skanska AB’s executive vice president, and Mike Putnam, the UK’s president and CEO, cover key project achievements across the world.
They ended by praising the UK’s hard work and dedication which has played a major role in Skanska’s international expansion and success.
