Building society raises £1,400 for Asthma UK

A Watford building society raised £1,400 for Asthma UK by selling a badge of the children’s television character Bagpuss.

The Leeds Building Society in the High Street took part in a national campaign, featured in all 65 branches.

Adam Rea, branch manager, said: "This campaign proved popular, and provided a great opportunity for our colleagues and members in Watford to raise awareness of this very common condition."

Figures from Asthma UK show the condition affects 5.4 million people nationally and leads to 200 emergency hospital admissions every day.

In addition, 90 per cent of the deaths from asthma are preventable.
