Scarecrows celebrate best of British
Downpours didn’t get in the way of youngsters from a Bedmond school proudly showing off their scarecrows this week to celebrate the best of British.
The Mayor of Bedmond, Bill and Ben, the Tudors, a Beefeater, a paralympic athlete, and Anne Boleyn - made out of recyclable and natural materials - were just some of the stars of the festival proudly lined up in the school's nature reserve.
Parents and visitors were invited along to Bedmond Primary School in Meadow Way to admire and judge the best scarecrow on Wednesday.
Emma Woollon, headteacher at the village school, said: "The day was brilliant despite the downpours.
"We decided on the best of British theme to tie in with our jubilee year and the Olympics and Paralympics, to keep the tradition going.
"The children worked really hard all afternoon to show their scarecrows off.
"We hope to make our scarecrow festival bigger and better and branch out to the village."
Cash raised at the festival will go towards funds to building a new kitchen for children’s cookery classes.
