Hertfordshire County Council has given cash to Rickmansworth Toy Library

Rickmansworth Toy Library is going hi-tech by implementing a computerised barcode lending system, following a grant from Hertfordshire County Council.

A total of £750 has been allocated from the council’s locality budget to buy toy tracker software for the library, creating a faster and more efficient lending service for the charity.

The library, which is run by volunteers, offers a toy lending service to children from birth to eight-years-old.

The toy library has 150 local parent/carer members and holds fortnightly sessions at Mill End Community Centre, where members can bring their children to play for free, use the crafts table, have a cup of tea and socialise.

They can then pay between 20p and £4 to borrow a toy until the next session.

Locality budgets were launched in July 2009, with funding to be used for worthy social, economic or environmental causes in Hertfordshire.
