Football fans visited a Watford supermarket this afternoon to meet Queens Park Rangers defender Anton Ferdinand.

The footballer was in Asda at Garston to sign copies of the game FIFA 13 and pose for photos with fans.

The 27-year-old said: “I like the game very much, I’ve played it a few times, even as myself.

“It doesn’t look much like me though – the character still has plaits, braids, I don’t have those anymore, so I’m going to have to have a word.

“As for whether I play better on the pitch or in the game – I’m probably a bit better in the game.

“I get to meet fans quite a lot, but it’s a really nice opportunity to do signings as they get a chance to come and talk to me.

“I’ve been to Watford a few times, I’ve got a few friends from here and I always find the people really friendly.

“It’s great meeting people who appreciate what you do on the pitch.”

Mr Ferdinand, who has been thrust into the media limelight because of the race row involving Chelsea's John Terry, refused to comment on the Football Association’s decision to issue John Terry with a four-match ban and a fine of £220,000.

But when asked whether he was tempted to come and play for Watford Football Club, he laughed: “Not at the moment, no.”

Mark Strange took his daughter Chanel, nine, along for the signing.

The Meriden Estate resident said: “I’m a massive West Ham fan and have followed Anton throughout his career.

“It was great to meet him in person, he’s a brilliant footballer.”
