Firefighters called to reported 'explosion' at electricity junction box in The Parade, Watford
Firefighters were called to reports of an explosion at the weekend following problem at a electricity junction box.
The lid of the junction box was reportedly blown into the air on Saturday morning and the area was later sealed off.
No one was said to be injured in the incident.
A spokesman for UK Power Networks said: “Occasionally the heat generated by such a fault can cause the lid to move. In order for engineers to safely make repairs, 61 customers had to have their power turned off at about 1.15pm.
“Engineers worked late into the night and electricity supplies were returned to 55 customers by 8pm and the remaining 8 customers by 12.08am on the morning of Sunday October 7.
“We would like to reassure our customers that we worked as quickly as was safely possible to restore their power. We realise how frustrating it can be to be without electricity and apologise for any inconvenience.”
