Olympic boxing gold medallist Anthony Joshua has been named as ambassador of the Watford and Three Rivers charity Homestart.

The champ visited the Lord Street charity, which supports families with children under five in times of crisis, on Saturday.

Emma Power, Homestart office manager, said:  "We are delighted Anthony has chosen to be an ambassador for our charity and we look forward to working with him the future.

"He gave up time in his busy schedule to come and meet some local Watford children and was an inspiration, encouraging them to do well at school and get involved in sport.

"The children all had a marvellous time."

As well as signing autographs and posing for pictures with his prestigious medal, Mr Joshua judged the colouring competition.

Danielle Gordon was the winner with her slogan "turn your trash into treasure". She won a family ticket to the Harry Potter Studios

If you are interested in volunteering for Homestart, telephone the office on 01923 248010 or email enquires@home-startwatford.org.uk.

I was lucky enough to meet Anthony Joshua at the Audentior Awards evening, and there's no doubt about it but he's a super cool individual, and a worthy Olympic Champion, and the fact that he accepts positions such as Ambassador to the Homestart charity just endorses this - Watford has bred a good'un here.

Anthony Joshua was amazing on Saturday and Homestart ran a great competition, but sorry Watford Observer but that picture is not of the winning entry or the winner Danielle Gordon!
