A former Coronation street star joined walkers for a stroll through Whippendell Woods on Sunday in the name of charity.

Wendi Peters, who played Cilla Battersby-Brown in the show until 2007, was among 90 walkers taking part in the event to raise money for the Pepper Foundation.

The six-mile walk through the countryside helped raised more than £2,000 for the charity, which provides nursing care for children with life-limiting or terminal illnesses.

Brenda Scott-Oldfield, who volunteers with the charity, said: "People kept saying the walk was lovely and it was beautiful autumn scenery and the bonus was, it didn’t rain."
