Muscle-bound fundraisers took part in a charity strongman competition in Watford.

The event, organised by Paul Joseph, of New Spartan Gym, took place in Greycaine Road on Saturday.

Staff from the gym in Sandown Road regularly holds strongman competitions and wanted to raise money for a local charity.

The contest was split into an under-105kg amateur category and an open category for competitors of any weight.

There was a fire engine truck pull, a car deadlift , a 200kg and 300kg frame carry, log lift and a loading event where heavy beer kegs had to be placed on top of plinths.

Mr Joseph said: "We had 20 people in the novice and 14 or 16 in the open class, where there were some guys there who were up to 20 stone.

"Everyone paid £15 to enter and we had buckets going around on the day too. We haven’t counted the money in the buckets but we’d like to raise between £400 and £500 in total."
