Fair Field Junior School in Radlett celebrates top rating from Ofsted
Pupils and staff from a Radlett school are celebrating, following an Ofsted inspection which rated the school as "outstanding".
Fair Field Junior School, in Watford Road, was inspected by the non-ministerial governmental department over two days, on October 3 and 4.
This latest rating is a significant improvement on the school’s last two inspections in 2007 and 2009, which rated the school as "satisfactory".
In the latest report, lead inspector Andrew Saunders states that: "Teaching is never less than good, and is frequently outstanding, because teachers have high expectations of every pupil and make sure they have work to do which challenges them.
"Achievement is outstanding because all groups of pupils make rapid progress and reach levels of attainment which are well above average in all subjects.
"Pupils are highly enthusiastic about learning and show great determination to improve what they do."
Achievements in mathematics were singled out as "particularly impressive", with some pupils managing to achieve levels which far exceed expectations for their age - this is credited to encouragement in their progress.
Impressive skills in reading, writing, and information and communication technology are also highlighted and achieved because they are given a high profile across all year groups and within all subjects.
Inspectors did suggest one area where the school could look to improve, and that was increasing the involvement of pupils in evaluating and developing further innovation in the curriculum.
Headteacher Matt Johnson said: "We’re thrilled with this result - it’s a tribute to the wonderful learning that goes on at Fair Field. It’s a credit to our talented team and to the hard work of our pupils.
"Fair Field’s ‘outstanding’ rating represents a triumph for the school’s team.
"In 2007 the school was awarded a ‘satisfactory’ rating. In 2009 the school was awarded ‘satisfactory’ with many ‘good’ elements. The school is now ‘outstanding’ in all respects.
"Fair Field has turned around, but we will not stop there. We look forward to the coming challenges and to making further improvements."
In the latest report, inspectors have strong praise for every area of the school and label much of what they saw during their visit “exemplary”.
