Young musicians from Edge Grove School in Aldenham have entertained a packed audience of parents and staff, as part of the prep school’s annual instrumental competition.
Lydia Daniels, in Year 8 was crowned winner at the performance on Tuesday, October 9, after her performance of a Spanish dance by Moszovski. Rachael Toolan, school director of music, said: "The advanced players were impressive in many ways - fingers were flying on the piano, there were some extremely characterful and musical woodwind performances, beautiful singing and fiery violin playing.
"The winners of the beginner and intermediate groups entertained everyone beautifully, performing with great confidence and enjoyment."
Jane Stevens, assistant director of music from Uppingham, had a difficult job in trying to decide on the winner and overall "Edge Grove Young Musician of the Year".
Luckily, the chamber choir were on hand to entertain the audience with a spirited version of ‘Go Down Moses’ while she deliberated over her choice. Each advanced performer received some valuable feedback and tips from the adjudicator. More than 170 musicians took part in the overall competition held over this term.
