Five parties to field candidates in central Watford by-election

Five political parties are set to battle it out for the vacant Watford Borough Council seat in the town’s Central ward.

The Liberal Democrats, Labour, the Conservatives, the Greens and the UK Independence Party are all fielding candidates in the election, which will be held on November 15.

The by-election has been triggered after the seat's previous Liberal Democrat incumbent, Chris Leslie, resigned to take up a job in the midlands.

In his place the Lib Dems are fielding Lizz Ayre, of Queens Road, for the seat.

The other candidates are Avril Haley, of Stanley Road, for Labour; Conservative Binita Mehta, of Hempstead Road; Su Murray, of Queens Road, for the Green Party and Renie Price, of Wellington Road, for UKIP.

What does Liz Ayres think about the width restriction at Woodmere Avenue?

Does she follow the local Liberal party line of hand-wringing?

Well don't vote for her then!

About time to show the council that they work for us, or in Liz's case, hopefully she doesn't.

More sloppy reporting!!!
Well Harry that party did come close last time round so you never know.

But this local control council needs a good kick up the backside and to be split up. After all, these politician prostitutes (lib dems) are a bunch of back stabbers, liars who don't give too hoots about the real interests of the local community, residents and the traders of Watford. All they care is about looking after themselves, the developers who want ruining watford town, our green spaces. And what rubbish is printed in the Lib Dems opinion paper once again.

We need someone to stand up as none of the management of the council, councillors and the ungrateful mayor is listen to us are they?

A councillor who will stand up for the residents of Watford instead of their own party interests.

You mean UKIP.

Reg, please help me out here. UKIP are about taking us out of Europe and campaigning for a referendum on the issue. What relevance does this have to a small Borough Council election?

Are you not just an extreme splinter of the Tory right?

Well I am surprised, another Reg Edit missive.

UKIP should do as the name suggests, go off and KIP!

THE CONSERVATIVES WOULD RUN THIS CORRECTLY, THE LIB DEMS WOULD PROBABLY MESS IT UP AND LABOUR, DON'T GET ME STARTED !

There, that should have upset everyone !

No, you missed out the Greens. They manage to consistently get councillors in for Callowland, why not Central? They are fairly similar wards.

Local councils should have far more independants standing about local issues. I know people who wouldn't vote Tory because of Thatcher, or Labour because of Blair, or LD because of Clegg.
All which have NOTHING to do with whether we give planning permission to build a new housing estate or not!

How long has Lizz Ayre lived in Queens Road then?

Firstly, Woodmere Avenue is not in Central Ward and the width restriction has put there by the county council and not the borough council so a Central Ward Councillor can do little or nothing about a width restriction in another ward.
You need to talk about it with the existing Tudor Ward Councillors, i.e. Kelly McCleod, Lindsey Scudder and Darren Walford (all Liberal Democrats).
I am surprised to see the Conservative Party candidate lives in Hempstead Road. What part of Central Ward is that located in?

Labour have two Councillors in Leggatts who dont live in the Ward with the other a Tory who doesnt live in the Ward.Central has Rabbi Martins (Lib Dem Councillor) who lives further away than the Tory Candidate. The Labour Councillor for Holywell lives in Park. The Councillor who stood down to create the election never lived in the Ward. I could go on but John Dowdle why the surprise about the Tory when all parties do the same thing?

Sanity 750. You are wrong about the candidate who stood down never living in the ward. He lived in Ebury Road before moving to Gammons Lane.
What else have you got wrong?

John, I shouldnt have used the word never, but he certainly didnt live in the Ward at the time of standing down. Now how about you answering my question "why the surprise about the Tory when all parties do the same thing?"

Interesting comments. The Tory candidate is a paper candidate only. Lizz is a a nice young woman but, will be controlled by the Lib Dems - OK if that is what you want. Likewise Avril the Labour candidate. UKIP - well really, what has that got to do with local issues? And Su, the green candidate that most of you easily dismiss,
has lived in Watford for longer than any of the other candidates , doesn't have to follow the party line, and seems pretty keen on community issues. Why not give the Greens a punt - sure as hell can't do any worse.
