TV Dragon Peter Jones invests time in Hertfordshire

The University of Hertfordshire is among the universities visited by “TV Dragon” and top businessman Peter Jones, as part of the Government review into the support that people get from universities and colleges when starting their own business.

As more people consider starting their own business as a response to the recession, the University of Hertfordshire plays a key role in providing support and facilities to help students, graduates and the local community.

Peter Jones met students and toured the MacLaurin building – the University of Hertfordshire’s business hub (Hatfield Business Park) which is the home of its unique career service, Graduate Future that offers support to university students for life. He also visited the Incubation Centre, a fully equipped office for start-up businesses for students and graduates.

Julie Newlan, Director of Business Partnerships at the University of Hertfordshire, said: “As the leading business-facing University in the country, we welcome this government review. We were pleased to show Peter Jones that Hertfordshire plays a key role in supporting individual entrepreneurial spirit and flare.”

Nathan Ghann, a student at the University of Hertfordshire who met Peter Jones said: “As a partner in a new business start-up, it’s good to know that Peter Jones is leading on this much needed Government review. It was a real pleasure to meet him as he is a real inspiration to students like me.”

In the first half of the year alone, the University of Hertfordshire has hosted UHAngels and Flare - business awards for student and graduate entrepreneurs - with a combined prize value worth over £38,000. It also hosted its first Positive Action event in April to support individuals and new business start-ups.
