Perfect illustration of Wenta’s sound business advice

Businesswoman Rachel Hunt provides the perfect illustration of how advice from Wenta can pay such high dividends.

Rachel was referred to Wenta for business advice by the Prince’s Trust having trained as an illustrator. She had a strong desire to create unique, personalised and commercial art for the public.

She arrived at the organisation eager to set up her own business but frustrated with not being able to find a niche for her extraordinary artistic talents.

She felt she was offering a lot of work for free and without a proper pricing structure in place her earning potential was not looking good.

Having agreed to paint a mural as a favour for a friend she realised that this could be the platform for the business she desired.

She approached Wenta for help with building a business around internal and external murals and it was at this point that she learnt about the ‘Inspiring Women in Enterprise’ (IWE) project.

The course ran over three days and Rachel attended all of the training sessions and found the one to one advice it offered invaluable.

She learnt how to write a business plan, action her goals and how to take advantage of the networking opportunities the IWE course offered.

With a complete business plan, Rachel went back to the Prince’s Trust to apply for start-up funding. She was successful and was awarded £1,000 to support her new business.

As her business started to take shape Rachel identified that her costs were minimal but that marketing her skills was crucial to her success.

The IWE networking meetings that Rachel attended helped significantly in this area. She displayed her comprehensive portfolio to other IWE clients and as a result she has completed two pieces of commissioned work.

Rachel’s company, Rachel Elizabeth Designs is now in a test trading period, and Rachel has specified that her aim is to satisfy her customers and create an image that fulfills their needs.

She has found that digitally designing rough ideas is a huge help in achieving this objective because she can discuss her initial concepts with the client and make any necessary adjustments before her mural designs are finalised.

Rachel believes that ever since she built her portfolio of work Wenta has offered her invaluable business support and direction. She is now continuing to paint but has also branched out into illustration and design projects.

She has recently completed a mural for Wenta as well as undertaking some brilliant branding work for a national martial arts organisation.
