Business launches feel good lunches in Watford

Watford has been selected for the pilot trial of a new online business that delivers healthy lunchboxes direct to people’s desks.

The new venture is the brain child of local businessman Chris Wright who believes that lunch should not only taste good, it should feel good too.

The service, which started delivering to most Watford post code areas this week, is far removed from the traditional sandwich van service.

It uses the functionality of internet technology to enable customers to choose and order their lunchbox in the morning for delivery to their offices at lunchtime on the same day.

However, as Chris is quick to point out, it is not just the online technology that makes this service different.

He said: “Too many people these days are buying mass produced sandwiches which use imported processed foods. You have to question how healthy they are, how fresh, how nutritious?

” There are also lots of people who miss lunch all together because they’re too busy; but this affects both their performance and their health. That’s why My Green Lunch Box is a modern alternative. Green as the name suggests, with a strong healthy nutritional edge. We save people time and we help them eat more healthily. They can feel good, because they’re looking after themselves and the planet.”

The web site (www.myglb.co.uk) has detailed nutritional information to help customers choose a healthy balanced lunchbox based on their personal and dietary needs.

They get a nutritional breakdown of everything on the web site and can review this against their Guideline Daily Allowances. Customers can use this information to choose the contents of their lunchbox in a more informed way, including the ability to create their own sandwich combination from a list of ingredients, right down to the choice of spread. The sandwiches and salads are all freshly made to order.

Chris added: “Our operation is environmentally very responsible; we use the most efficient vehicles to provide a chilled delivery service and we keep our mileage low by preparing the lunch box locally. Wherever we can, we use recycled packaging and materials that are fully compostable.

”For example our salad bowls look like plastic but they are in fact bio-plastics made from vegetable starch. We buy as much produce as we can locally, so that it is as fresh as it can be, and this also minimises our carbon footprint. Our delivery service is much greener than everybody jumping into their cars to drive to the supermarket or to queue at the sandwich shop.”

Watford has been selected as the first area to receive the service and the company will be seeking local feedback in order to refine their menus and services before they roll it out nationally over the next 18 months.
