Watford-based JD Wetherspoon raises £3m for CLIC Sargent

Staff at Watford-based pub operator JD Wetherspoon have been presented with a special recognition award in celebration of raising £3 million for children’s cancer charity, CLIC Sargent.

To mark the milestone, CLIC Sargent patron and boxing legend, Barry McGuigan, visited Wetherspoon’s head office in Reeds Crescent, to present the prestigious award to the company’s chairman, Tim Martin.

Wetherspoon has supported CLIC Sargent since 2002 and is now its longest-standing corporate supporter.

Fundraising highlights during the eight-year partnership have included family fun days, sports auctions, raffles, sponsored head shaves and cycle rides, as well as the annual five-a-side football tournament for Wetherspoon staff, which alone has raised £800,000.

Tim Martin said: “We are extremely proud of our association with CLIC Sargent. I want to say a huge congratulations to all of our staff and customers who have shown such commitment to raising £3 million for this fantastic cause.

“We are aiming to continue the good work by raising an additional £500,000 in the forthcoming year.”

CLIC Sargent helps children and young people with cancer and their families with the trauma of diagnosis, the often long journey through treatment and continues to support them afterwards.
