Camelot, the National Lottery operator based in Watford, hopes to make Christmas a little brighter this year for some of the town's disabled children.
Staff from the company, based in Tolpits Lane, will hold a festive party at Watford Mencap Children's Centre, in St Albans Road, on Wednesday, December 15.
They had hoped to raise more than £2,000, but a dedicated team has already collected £2,800 in donations. Camelot will also match every pound raised, up to £3,000.
Thirty members of the children's centre have been invited to the Christmas party, giving at least 25 families three hours of respite from their caring duties.
Watford Mencap Children’s Centre costs £200,000 every year to run, so any extra money raised by Camelot will go towards the running of the Centre.
Harriet Pearce, Insight Research Executive, a member of the Camelot team leading the fundraising, said: “I’m delighted that we are supporting Watford Mencap Children’s Centre Christmas party.
“The organisation offers invaluable support and a nurturing environment for children with learning disabilities. The fundraising is a great way to give something back to the local community and we have been overwhelmed by people’s generosity.”
Lauren McEvoy from Watford Mencap added: “The party will not only give local children a special treat this Christmas but it will also offer families and carers a much-needed break. Camelot’s support of Watford Mencap and the local community has been fantastic and we are thrilled to be able to benefit from the company’s community spirit.”
