Watford-based pub company JD Wetherspoon has been applauded for meeting globally recognised corporate responsibility standards.
The company, which has its headquarters in Reeds Crescent, has been included in the FTSE4GoodIndex, the responsible investment index, calculated by global index provider FTSE Group.
The company’s head of corporate affairs, Caroline Walters, said: “This is a wonderful achievement for the company.
“It highlights Wetherspoon’s efforts in working towards environmental sustainability, developing positive relationships with stakeholders and upholding and supporting universal human rights.
“We continue to improve in all of these areas, which are of great importance to ourselves, our customers and our suppliers.”
A spokesman for the FTSE4GoodIndex, said: “Ten years ago when the index was launched, it was still regarded as a niche concept.
“Today, institutional investors around the world are increasingly focused on considering the environmental, social and governance practices of the companies they invest in.”
Wetherspoon employs more than 24,000 staff across the UK.
