So what’s your idea of local?  Pub?  make mine a large one, don’t mind if I do, thank-you very much? There was a time  Local meant things were practically on your doorstep, but even a marathon runner would have trouble keeping up by todays standards……..

When I was a baby Dinosaur, people pretty much walked everywhere because you could, from schools to hospitals to evening adult classes.  But fast forward to today where very little is local & everything’s disposable, buildings, individuals & communities,  all wiped out in moments and replaced with something else or somewhere else. Although let’s face it  a community can never be replaced, friendships and bonds that for many are lifelines are simply destroyed for profit and greed.

                 Watford Observer:

While technology and the digital age mean peoples business & social needs can be met in an instant, when it comes to things like education and health we’re shamefully being let down.

After a 9month wait and two cancelations I had my appointment at Watford hospital this week to be told it was only an assessment and I’ll have to go to Hemel Hempstead for the actual Lung Function test which will include six minutes on a treadmill amongst other things which will be exhausting so I’ll need to choose a good day…….like ME’s a choice?

Considering most people that visit a hospital are doing so because they aren’t well, how is travelling further, better for a patient both from a health and financial point of view?

I’m also having a nightmare with NHS dentists as more and more procedures are private only, meaning I still end up facing £600 + bills. Right now I’m left with an infection in my jaw and tooth, three days anti-biotics, a two week wait until the next appointment and up to a 10 week wait after that for extraction by sedation at another facility somewhere.   I’ve got to the point I’m looking at Do It Yourself You-tube videos.

                              Watford Observer:

As for Evening courses, I was going  to let my mother out from under the floorboards and suggested that she take up   Sumo wrestling or Underwater basket weaving, but all the courses she wanted to do were in another town. Hanging around a bus stop at night to travel back or paying  £30-£40  cab fees on a pension are both out the question.

It’s a shame that local no longer means local & nothing is straight forward anymore. How long before the boundary extends into Europe, and nipping out to buy a pint of milk means taking the Eurotunnel huh hee huh hee huh?

Staying on the topic of “local” What Muppet at Herts County Council gave the go ahead for the traffic lights to be switched back on at the Dome Roundabout? It’s a disgrace that the people of Watford have been ignored.  There was virtually no traffic, it was so free flowing and in general people were more courteous and it was just blinkin brilliant & it worked. Now thanks to some ignorant and idiotic decision its back to being a chaotic nightmare.

The reason given is apparently for the safety of pedestrians and cyclists?  So are they saying there were a number of accidents with them turned off? Only,I’ve not heard of any, I’ve only heard of praise en masse out in the streets and all over social media so either  Herts County Council are out of touch or they’ve just decided to stick two fingers up to the people of Watford.  I, like many others can only hope that they come to their senses.

To end on some awesome Local news, Congratulations to the Golden Boys. Watford football club have clinched promotion and are going up to the premier league. Troy Deeney, captain and top goal scorer even had a call from Elton John which was a nice touch but well deserved. I’m sure all the boys are buzzing, just like Watford will be On Bank Holiday Monday 4th May  when they ride the open top bus through the town, celebrating with the fans & finally ending up in Cassiobury Park where they’ll continue celebrations by taking to the Vibe 107.6FM  stage, there will also be Live music and children’s entertainmet. Its going to be a fantastic family day to remember, which is what Watford FC  have always been about, and as local goes, that’s something to be proud of.
