I don’t know about you, but I love books. As a grown up (debateable I know) I prefer non-fiction, but  still remember many childhood books that I loved, In fact I have a copy of the very first Noddy book, its without dust jacket so not valuable in money terms but it’s  priceless in sentiment.  Holding the book in both hands somehow manages to take me back down memory lane.  Its for the same reason I prefer vinyl & Cds over downloading…..

          Watford Observer:

It’s  The feel, the artwork, the smell, it’s a whole sensory experience that you don’t get with downloading or a kindle, they’re soulless in comparison, sure I get the practicality, just as it would be practical to don some wellies before walking through a muddy puddle, but far more fun to experience it barefoot, practical doesn’t always mean best & for that reason I will always be an Old school kinda woman…….

                                Watford Observer:

Unlike todays generation we were lucky because comics were also a  big weekly deal in most households and just changed with you as you grew , I started off with things like Twinkle, and Bunty, then moved on to Beano, Batman & Whoopee, before the teen years of Jackie, Look-in, My Guy &  Smash Hits……For the boys, Eagle and Roy Of The Rovers were always a sell out at our local newsagents , but  if  this has got you reminiscing about your own faves then how about sharing them with us in Comments?

And for those that remember classroom story-time I came across this video clip of B.J.Novak  an American Actor & stand up comedian who last year wrote a childrens book without any pictures, called “ The Book With No Pictures”   to prove that done correctly you can hold childrens attention and capture their imagination by text alone. Doesn’t matter how many times I watch this I can feel the corners of my mouth stretching up towards my ears https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cREyQJO9EPs

Now if you’re like me and prefer reading in bed then quite possibly this weeks chosen gadget/gizmo will have you hyperventilating with excitement? It’s  the Nap Massaging bed rest, designed for comfort, it’s got a built In  back massager, overhead bendy light, & basically all the comfort of sitting in a chair but in bed, and when you’re done it just folds down like a small suitcase with a handle for easy storage. I also thought how awesome this is for people that are ill and have to spend a lot of time in bed. The only problem is at $99 they seem extremely hard to get hold of, when I was looking for a link to give you, there was only one seller from the UK who’d sold out and had no date for any more, and a lot of the American sellers didn’t ship to the UK but I’m sure with a more solid search you could get your hands on one if you wanted.

                 Watford Observer:

In M.E news there’s been an update on a UK Rituximab Clinical Trial but I’ll let you head over to the Lets Do It For ME site and read all about it for yourself: http://ldifme.org/uk-rituximab-study/

                 Watford Observer:

In other M.E updates some of you might remember in a previous column I wrote about Mike Harley who is going to run 28 Marathons in 28 EU countries to raise awareness and funds for  charity Invest In ME? Well he’s  still busy training and his next Marathon will take place in  Helsinki on 15th August and you can follow Mikes journey in text and photos over at his website: http://www.mikeseumarathons.com/

In local news, for anyone that went to Leggatts Way School there is a closed group on Facebook with nearly 700 members made up of past pupils and a couple of teachers, sharing memories, photos and chit chat, it’s a great place to hang out and hook up with old pals. Due to spammers and  trolls, You have to ask to join and then wait until someone confirms you in: https://www.facebook.com/groups/9916131668/

There’s also one for  Langleybury School with over 800 members: https://www.facebook.com/groups/Langleyburyschoolalumni/?fref=ts

These were the two main senior schools when I was growing up and like most schools, closed or knocked down and the land sold. Its surprising how many people don’t know that these groups exist and for those now living abroad or out of the area, it’s a great way to to keep in touch and re-ignite memories.

But wherever you live in the country and whatever school you went too, if you put the name into facebook I’m fairly sure there will be a group for you too.

                                 Til next week, Stay Blessed
