Sacré bleu – why the French leave me cold

We've got plenty of sporting treasures round here. Not just Vicarage Road, but some staggeringly beautiful cricket grounds, football fields that stretch into the distance, excellent cycle paths, equestrian facilities, golf courses and ten-pin bowling.

My wife and I have made a vow to try to go to the cinema once in a while. We wanted to say once per week but the demands of work, children and, well, life in general often turn an aspiration into a near-miss.

A corking good time at Scouts' winter camp

A year ago, I went camping with the local Cub Scout group and it snowed. Not a little apology of a flurry, but proper deep snow. We got back to the campsite, tired and hungry, and ended up having hot chocolate next to a raging fire as the snow fell all around us.

Shedding light on what it means to be a man

My father turned 80 this week so we had a little party. Family and a few friends, some glasses of bubbly and his choice of food – sausages and mash followed by profiteroles. When you get to his age, you eat what you like.
