WHEN deciding who to vote for in an election, I guess policies always come first. But what else do we humble members of the public look for in a candidate?
WE'VE all done it, eagerly handed over a customer loyalty card at the till to earn enough points to "buy" some trivial item - an extra bottle of shampoo at Boots or some chocolates at Sainsbury's.
SEVERAL weeks ago, my esteemed colleague Jon Massey pointed out the daftness of the Herts police policy to refer to people as being "of mixed heritage" - a description that sheds no light on a person's appearance whatsoever. Never mind all this political-correctness-gone-mad stuff, why can't people just say what they mean, and what everybody else knows they mean?
