A thief has been jailed thanks to a revolutionary crime fighting tool.

Police were able to prove a photo frame, found at an address in Leggatts Way, was stolen after finding it was marked with a hidden Enigma Tag - printed with a colourless ink visible only under ultraviolet light.

Watford man Ashley Priestley, 21, of Gammons Lane was later jailed for two months for that and a string of other similar offences.

The tag uses encrypted micro particles to mark property so it can be easily identified. It is very tough to remove or replicate.

Suspicious police officers can identify items' rightful owners with a simple, handheld scanner.

Any copper that thinks this is new thought he was working as a bow street runner!
