Police will be knocking on at least five residents' doors in Oxhey during their daily patrols to give advice on distraction burglaries, burglaries and vehicle crime as well as trying to recruit new neighbourhood watch members as part of a new initiative.

Oxhey Neighbourhood Sergeant Craig Flint said: "The purpose is quite simply for officers to better understand the needs of the residents in their wards; provide reassurance and awareness to help protect themselves from becoming a victim of crime and increase our information about people acting suspicious and potential vulnerable premises.

"The overall aim is to increase our visibility and accessibility and increase feelings of public safety. We want to make Three Rivers a hostile environment for offenders to commit crime."

He said: "By identifying individual premises and victims of crime by working with our partner agencies we can work on sustainable long-term solutions, for example it may be asking the council to tidy up a front garden or disguising a disabled ramp so it cannot be seen from the road."
