Drink driver banned for five years
A persistent drink driver was today banned from driving for five years after he admitted to police that he had downed two bottles of wine before getting behind the wheel.
Dean Smith, of Hillrise Avenue in Watford, had already pleaded guilty to driving while over the legal alcohol limit.
Watford Magistrates Court heard that on February 19, police pulled Smith over as he drove along Hillrise Avenue, towards Bushey Mill Lane, after watching him swerve his car over the central road markings.
After getting out of the car Smith told officers "I'm over the limit" and "I've had two bottles of wine".
The court heard Smith had been banned from driving twice before for similar offences.
After banning Smith from driving for the next five years the presiding magistrate, Mr Neville Wade, told Smith that he should see the ban as "an opportunity for rehabilitation".
Smith was also given a 12 month community order and ordered to attend drink driving and alcohol treatment programmes.
