Chorleywood off-licence robbed

A man threatened a shop owner with a kitchen knife and demanded money from the till when he robbed an off-licence in Chorleywood.

The incident happened at around 2.15pm on Thursday, when the man entered Threshers in the Main Parade and asked for some cigarettes.

As the manager processed the transaction, the man threatened him with a kitchen knife and demanded money from the till.

The manager handed over the money and the offender ran off towards Green Street.

Police are appealing for witnesses and describe the man as white, of medium build, about 5ft 11in tall, aged between 25 and 30 and with short dark brown hair.

He was wearing a black baseball cap with a red trim logo, a flouorescent tabard and black top with black tracksuit bottoms, white trainers and black gloves.

Detective Sergeant Kevin Brown said: "Although incidents of this nature are rare in Chorleywood, this would have been very distressing for the victim.

"There would have been other customers in the shop at the time who may have seen something or people who in the broad daylight outside may have seen this man running away.

"I would strongly urge them to get in touch."

Anyone with information should call DS Brown on 0845 3300222, mentioning crime reference number C2/08/1337. Alternatively, telephone Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
