The middle of August is a testing time for students. As the AS and A-Level results arrive, students must decide what are the next steps to be taken.

For some A-Level students the path is straightforward: a university and course of their choice, the result of two years of hard work.

For others, the path is less clear. Sadly for many students, the 16th August can be at best a disappointing day. The longed for results do not materialise and students must make a difficult choice as to whether to go through Clearing.

In the past, this has sometimes been a simple decision. Though the university and course might not have been hugely appealing, students have often taken whatever is available to them in order to get their foot on the university ladder.

However, the higher education sector has recently undergone a huge change whereby students will be charged up to £9,000 per year for tuition fees. Therefore, it is imperative that every student embarks upon a course that they will be committed to. For this reason, students must often think about re-taking the A-Level qualification, either in part or wholly.

For AS students, though they may not have to worry about university entry then and there, it is still a momentous day. For those whose results are not as they wished, they may consider either retaking the AS year or taking an A-Level Intensive course.

At Regent College, all these options are available to you. Regent College is a co-educational, independent school and sixth form college located in the leafy suburbs of Harrow, north-west London.

We offer a wide range of courses, both traditional, and unique in nature. We run Key Stage 3, Year 10 and Year 11 courses, AS and A2 but also offer special Intensive courses. These are available at A-Level in both a one year and one term long format. Within this course, students will revise and re-sit their AS units whilst working on the A2 units. It is demanding in nature but offers great results. Our one year GCSE Intensive course, works in the same manner, revising and consolidating work from Years 10 & 11.

Students will also benefit from:

• A highly experienced and dedicated teaching team, many having experience working as examiners
• Unusually small class sizes, allowing each student that vital time and attention you don’t get in many schools and colleges
• Excellent resources and facilities
• A close student monitoring system
• Competitive fees
• A highly accessible location

In our most recent Ofsted report, we were marked a minimum of ‘Good’ in every category. The report stated that, “Regent College provides a good quality of education within a calm and positive learning environment which enables students of all ages to thrive and to make good progress.”

Our August 2011 results were excellent:
50% A* - B grades
81% A* - C grades
98% Pass rate
