THE Disability Recreation Unity Movement (DRUM) in Watford has been awarded £3,000 after being crowned the winner of the TOTAL Community Champions 2008 Awards.
In conjunction with the Watford Observer, the competition searched for local groups, which go that extra mile to serve others in their community.
And after many entries were received, DRUM was named the overall winner.
DRUM is a charity that provides daily activities and support for adults with physical and sensory disabilities. It also provides carer support sessions once a month.
TOTAL UK and the Watford Observer ran the awards to highlight and celebrate the outstanding work of community groups in and around the Watford area.
TOTAL corporate communications manager Kate Munro said: “We wanted to reward local community groups for all the good work they do and The TOTAL Community Champions 2008 Awards seemed like the perfect way to do this. We received many worthy entries but DRUM is definitely the deserving winner.”
DRUM co-ordinator Sarah Sullivan added: “We are over the moon to have won this award. To be nominated by so many people is amazing and the prize money will help provide much needed art supplies. We are thankful to TOTAL UK and the Watford Observer as this will really help make a difference.”
