Green-fingered residents and staff at a Chorleywood care home have won through to the semi-finals of a national gardening competition.

The 58 bed Beaumont Home, in Rickmansworth Road, has fended off competition from 170 other homes across the country to be named as one of just 26 semi-finalists in the Barchester Care Homes in Bloom competition.

The competition, now in its fourth year, aims to promote the imaginative planting of flowers, trees and shrubs in the gardens of its homes to create positive environments for their residents and relatives to enjoy.

Manager Shaun Canavan said: “The residents really enjoy spending time in the garden and this competition provides them all with a common focus. Many of them enjoyed gardening before they came here and it keeps them healthy.

An expert judging panel is currently touring all the semi-finalist homes to select finalists. A winner will be announced in October.
