Pedal for Peace

Almost 200 cyclists will strap on their bicycle clips and dust down their mud guards as they prepare to take on one of three challenging charity bike rides on Sunday morning.

The Pedal for Peace charity ride, organised to raise much-needed money for The Peace Hospice, will get under way at 9am in Cassiobury park with cyclists taking on either the 10 mile, 20 mile or the daunting 30 mile course.

More than 150 bikers have already signed up for one of the three races and the organisers are expecting even more people to turn up on the day.

And anyone who still wants to sign up for one of the races, but has not done so yet, can enter one of the rides on the morning of the event.

After the riders have recovered from the exertion of the race an afternoon of family entertainment in Cassiobury Park has been organised, with live music throughout the day.

The programme includes performances on the main stage, as well as baton twirling and salsa demonstrations in between the music.

There will also be magicians, a coconut shy, a climbing wall and other activities to entertain the children, while adults will be able to make use of the bar and enjoy a barbecue.

The event is being held to raise money for The Peace Hospice, which requires £3.5 million this year.

The hospice’s communications manager, Jon Michael said: “This is the first time that we’ve run this event and it’s a great way for people to support their local hospice.”
